Photo: ANTHONY AU-YEUNG It was a big weekend of cricket and past and present members of west Auckland's two premier clubs were heavily involved. At Eden Park on Saturday Martin Guptill and Michael Bates from Suburbs New Lynn led New Zealand to a seven wicket victory against a spirited Zimbabwe side in the first of two twenty20 inter- national matches. Bates was the star bowler for the Black Caps, taking three wickets for 31 runs in his four overs against Zimbabwe. Guptill then kept his dominant summer with the bat going as the former Avondale College student smashed 91 runs off 54 balls. Guptill also made three catches to earn man of the match honours. Former Kelston Boys High School student Roneel Hira made his Black Caps debut by taking a wicket for 22 runs in his four overs of bowling. In the domestic one-day final between Auckland Aces and Central Districts Stags Waitakere City's Anaru Kitchen scored 27 from 23 balls at Pukekura Park in New Ply- mouth. Kitchen also took one wicket for 25 runs and made a catch to dismiss former Black Cap Jamie How. But it was former Suburbs player Tarun Nethula who helped Central Districts to victory with an impress- ive 43 runs from 32 balls as Central's lower order got home with only one ball left in the innings. Waitakere City's Dusan Hakaraia and Suburbs New Lynn's Jeet Raval also played in the match.
