Studio set for Emperor film Matthew Fox By STEPHEN FORBES Tommy Lee Jones Stunts are being re- hearsed and the cos- tumes are under way in preparation for filming Emperor at Henderson's Auckland Film Studios. Spokeswoman Diana Goulding says pre-pro- duction also includes makeup and camera tests. There's a lot going on. It's a huge undertaking.'' She says up to 300 people will be involved in making the movie at multiple locations in and out of Auckland. The start date for filming is expected to be announced this week. Award winning actor Tommy Lee Jones is the latest big name from Hollywood to be con- firmed as part of the cast. The star of JFK, Men in Black and No Country for Old Men is expected to play General Douglas MacArthur in the war epic. Actor Matthew Fox will play the lead role of General Bonner Fellers in the film. He's well known for his role as Jack She- phard in the hit tele- vision thriller Lost. Emperor is a political drama set during the Japanese surrender at the end of World War Two. It follows General Fellers, an expert on Japan, as he deliberates on whether deposed Emperor Hirohito should be tried or face the death penalty. It will be directed by Peter Webber whose past credits include Girl with a Pearl Earring fea- turing Scarlett Johansen and Colin Firth and Hannibal Rising. The studios have pre- viously been used to film scenes from Whale Rider and The Chronicles of Narnia and television series Xena Warrior Princess and Legend of the Seeker.
