Photos: FIONA GOODALL West success in Trans-Tasman clash The weather came right on Sunday for the annual Trans-Tasman Chal- lenge event which sees 10 to 11-year- old athletes from Auckland and New South Wales competing in various track and field events. New South Wales defended their title in a close contest, winning 792 to 741. Waitakere City Athletics Club had success with its junior members who were selected to represent the Auck- land region. Britney Ware claimed silver in her 100 metres final, Cameron Halberg earned bronze in the 10-year-old boys 400m final, Grace Liu took sec- ond in the 11-year-old girls shot put final, Joe Nevill-Jackson took silver in the 10-year-old boys 800m event while TJ Paea earned silver in the 11-year-old boys 100m competition. Jonah Palota-Kopu won double medals with a gold medal in the dis- cus and a silver medal in the shot- put. Lucy Makaea won two golds in the long jump and discus to go with her bronze in the 10-year-old girls 100m final and Mogammad Ebrahim- Smith grabbed a hat-trick of gold medals with wins in the 10-year-old boys 100m, 200m, and long jump finals. Glen Eden Athletics club's Jasmin Bull won gold in the 11-year-old girls 200m final and was second in the 400m event.
