The motorway west of the causeway will be closed for 36 hours to allow for the demolition of the Selwood Rd bridge. The works are part of a $100 million redevelop- ment of the Lincoln Rd interchange by the NZ Transport Agency. Drivers are advised to use alternative routes including State Highway 1 and SH18. The NZTA is carrying out the work to take advantage of lower traffic volumes in Auck- land to complete the interchange. It will include a seven- lane bridge and will also incorporate a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists. The project is designed to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion and is part of the west- ern ring route. The Selwood Rd bridge and improvements to the westbound off-ramp are expected to be completed in 2013. Go to www.nzta.govt. nz/aklsummerseason for more information on the work. Tree disposal If you haven t thought of how to get rid of your unwanted Christmas tree the Auckland Coun- cil has a few tips. Deputy mayor Penny Hulse says there are at least a dozen sites in Auckland where people can dispose of their trees including the Refuse Recycling Station at the Concourse in Henderson and the Patiki Road Transfer Station in Avondale. Rubbish bins and landfills are not the place for Christmas trees, nor is the side of the road, Mrs Hulse says. Go to www.auckland council.govt.nz.
