Photo: NICOLA MURPHY Visual artist Charlotte Graham is well known for using words in her paintings. The New Lynn resi- dent has created a piece for the Free Store on Great North Rd in Hen- derson. Co-ordinators of the store have set up a large blackboard on one wall of the shop and invited artists to contribute work on a rotational basis. All the artwork is drawn with paint pens suitable for use on blackboards. Ms Graham says she was keen to develop a work based on the principles of the frees- tore, like recycling waste. The artwork contains the words kia ora and draws on ideas of health, wellbeing and food. TheK,OandAareall enlarged to spell out the word koa, which is the word for please. That's what the Free Store is about -- reci- procity and the act of giv- ing and taking.'' Her piece actually extends slightly off the blackboard. I couldn't help it, that's just part of my personality,'' she says. Ms Graham's artwork will be up until the end of the week.
