On March 7 the convoy will be at Mission Bay reserve at 12.45pm. A young Whenuapai resident named Taylor who lives with autism will receive an iPad from Variety to make life easier at home and school. Young Glen Eden resident Luke will be presented with a contri- bution to enable the family vehicle to be modified to accommodate his wheelchair. Organisations that help young people also benefit from Variety grants. Three-year-old Lucy from Titirangi will receive an insulin pump. This year the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre will receive a new piano and Lifeboyz, a charitable trust that provides special needs children with after-school care, will receive seven bikes and helmets. A grant for archery targets will be presented to North Rodney Blue Light Ventures, a com- munity youth programme run by the police that helps to reduce youth crime, build community partnerships and build up self- esteem among youth. Variety -- The Children s Char- ity is dedicated to helping sick, disabled and disadvantaged Kiwi kids to reach their full potential. This is done through a series of grants for items which fill the gaps that other organisations or the government don t fund. Since its inception in 1989, Var- iety has distributed more than $12 million to Kiwi kids in need. The Variety Bash begins in the Bay of Plenty on March 5 and travels to the Bay of Islands, end- ing in Paihia on March 12. Go to www.variety.org.nz for more information.
