Always there Morton and Anne Downie deserve our thanks for the great neighbours they have been for 35 years. They are the guardians of our little street -- always there to help. Morton will turn up with his chainsaw to help with tree surgery, or other specialised equipment for home crises, and generally keeps an eye on the comings and goings, day and night. He's always ready to lendahandorawordof advice. Anne is warm and caring and thoughtful, welcoming a new arrival with a lovely smile and practical input including helpful gifts. We love and appreciate them. They do so much and ask for nothing in return. -- Janet Blackman Douglas IN BRIEF Car flips A vehicle crashed and ended up on its roof in Glen Eden this week. The Audi A4 was stopped by police at around noon on Tuesday but then left the scene. Officers followed and the car lost control on Henderson Valley Rd, flipping upside down. No one was injured. Palm protester A Kelston father-of-two was arrested this month after spending five hours dangling off a ship's anchor docked outside Port Taranaki. Greenpeace protester Andrew Hahn scaled the anchor of the MV Great Motion which was carrying 10,000 tonnes of palm kernel. He says importing palm kernels is adding to global deforestation. He faces a charge of dangerous activity involving a ship and unlawfully getting on to a vessel. He is due to appear in court in New Plymouth on March 3.
