If so you will have noticed huge changes are under way. The Auckland Transport-driven intiatives are part of stages two and three of the New Lynn Transit Oriented Development programme to improve the town centre. The Clark St extension will be a 300-metre dual carriageway which will reduce traffic congestion on Totara Ave. Other improvements are being made around Totara Ave and the Todd Triangle including mak- ing the retail area more pedestrian-friendly. A new section of Totara Ave will be built to connect with Great North Rd. Whau Local Board chairman Derek Battersby thinks the end result will be well worth it. The works are a bit of an inconvenience for us but it's an upgrade the town needs. Transforming Totara Ave to improve the look and functionality of this area had been in the pipeline for years, but it couldn't proceed until the former railway land was secured to build the Clark St bypass,'' Mr Battersby says. Both projects are due for completion in Janu- ary 2012. Film a taste of India By NICOLA MURPHY Curry up: Aunanda Naaido as Sid, lead actor in the film Curry Munchers. It may not pay his bills but Aunanda Naaido gets a kick out of acting. The West Harbour resident is a fulltime chartered accountant and indulges his love of acting in his spare time. He is appearing for the first time in a feature film with a lead role in Curry Munchers. He also co-wrote and co-produced the film. It was directed by Unitec film graduate Cristobal Araus Lobos. The film is being re- leased nationwide on February 24. It follows the story of Indian immigrant Sid who starts working at a restaurant behind his parents' back to save money for a motorbike, hoping this will attract the same popularity he had in Delhi. Mr Naaido says it's a film for all New Zealand- ers. It's a comedy about how to adapt to change and the lies people tell to maintain their images.'' The film, which has been more than six years in the making developing the script and sourcing finance, was shot around Auckland in 26 days. Mr Naaido took a month off work to fit the shooting in. It's been immensely stressful but we are very proud of it,'' he says. The father-of-one says the title is not politically correct but he says this is deliberate. Curry muncher' is such a silly term. If you let it bring you down you lose your con- cept of life.'' Curry Munchers will also be distributed in Singapore and Malaysia. Mr Naaido hopes it will be picked up in Aust- ralia, the United King- dom and United States as well. He has many more projects in the pipeline but has to fit them in around his work as a finance manager. Accounting pays my bills and I'm good at it. But acting allows me to feel like a child again.''
