Wayne John Reid, 59, was found guilty by a jury in November last year of murdering Beryl Campbell. She was found dead in her Henderson unit. Mr Reid's lawyers said he had a major psychotic illness when he killed Mrs Camp- bell, but the jury rejected his defence of insanity. Justice Tim Brewer said it was clear Mr Reid was suffering from a psychiatric ill- ness at the time of the murder and probably wouldn't have killed Mrs Campbell if he wasn't. He said during Mr Reid's sentencing last week it would be unfair to sentence him to life imprisonment. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Mr Reid believed Mrs Campbell was spy- ing on him. He went to her home to confront her about it and strangled her to death. Taking a seat for a chat Hot seat: Titirangi resident John Geddes having a chat with Auckland mayor Len Brown on Friday. Photo: STEPHEN FORBES. Redeveloping Lopdell House, the Auckland Council's plans for 2011 and roading were some of the issues people took to the mayor when he visited Titirangi last week . Mayor Len Brown fronted up to meet residents on Friday in an event known as the Mayor in the Chair sessions. They are a way for Mr Brown to meet people across Auckland and hear their concerns. It's important to me to hear about Auck- landers' experiences and issues in their own words,'' he says. Some people drop by justtosayhiortotellme what they love about their part of Auckland, others bring concerns they want me to know about.'' About 20 people turned up for a chat with Mr Brown during the lunchtime meet and greet. Titirangi resident John Geddes came along to meet Mr Brown and says he was impressed. It's marvellous,'' he says. It's a great way for him to speak to people and find out what's going on.'' Mr Brown's next Mayor in The Chair event is planned for New Lynn on June 17.
