Coastguard New Zea- land national president Colin Small is reminding people to put contact details on their dinghies and kayaks to prevent unnecessary and costly search and rescue operations. He says there have been a number of recent incidents involving unmarked small craft which weren't secured properly. Coastguard gets called out and ends up search- ing for people who were never at risk, he says. The simple task of putting a name and con- tact number on a dinghy or kayak can save emerg- ency services a lot of time and energy. It ensures that you can be reached quickly and easily if it does get loose.'' Visit www.coast guard.co.nz for more information.
