Aucklanders currently make 63 million trips a year on public transport. Council transport com- mittee chairman Mike Lee says it would mean more trains on the west- ern line and better public transport for the whole region. Mr Brown wants to see that figure increase to 150 million a year by 2021. Auckland Council announced its plan for a CBD rail loop late last year. Transport Minister Steven Joyce questioned where the funding would come from and said the business case needed to be looked at in more detail. He announced a review of the proposal just before Christmas, to be carried out by the Ministry of Transport, Treasury and the New Zealand Transport Agency.
