West Aucklanders driving over the North- ern Gateway Toll Rd can pay before or after they use it by visiting www.tollroad.govt.nz or by phoning 0800-40-20- 20.There are also manual kiosks at the BP Service Centre at Dairy Flat and Puhoi but the New Zea- land Transport Agency warns these are already getting busy. Tolls can be paid up to five days after a trip. Traffic volumes are 50 percent higher over the holiday period than on a normal weekday -- more than 13,000 vehicles head north daily. NZTA regional direc- tor Stephen Town says planning in advance is the key. We re asking people to include paying for their tolls in their hol- iday plans just like checking the car s war- rant of fitness and regis- tration, or your driver s licence. At the holiday peak, we expect that all the machines will be in operation non-stop between 8am and 8pm. Even at a rate of one transaction a minute, queues are likely for those who choose to stop and pay at the kiosks. Tolls for each trip are $2 for cars and motor cycles and $4 for heavy vehicles. There are alternative options to using the toll road, including State Highway 16 accessed from the northwestern motorway.
