Cheers mate: Goal scorer Mike Gwyther thanks Roy Krishna, left, for the cross kick. There were shades of last season's grand final as Waita- kere United claimed a 2-1 win over a 10-man Canter- bury United at Fred Talyor Park. Nick Wortelboer's red card for bringing down Waita- kere's Allan Pearce in a des- perate foul turned the game in the 28th minute. Canterbury goalkeeper Tom Batty was more than equal to Pearce's free kick but barely a minute later Roy Krishna found Mike Gwyther at the back post with an accu- rate pass. Pearce then doubled the lead in the 71st minute when he beat Batty to a Zane Sole pass. Canterbury scored with four minutes left but the Wai- takere defence closed up shop to remain comfortably at the top of the table.
