By CATHERINE HEALY If you live near Glen Eden Intermediate School there s a new radio station you can try. The school is now broadcasting on 87.8 FM and calling itself TNT (Totally Not Television). Teacher Teresa Watts says the students get to choose the playlist, which runs continuously and is broadcast in the playground at interval. During lunch breaks students take turns to be the DJ and announce the tracks. Miss Watts says live broadcasting builds children s confidence. We get them to write a script, which I check before they go on air. We also check the songs they choose for bad language. The school hopes to develop the concept further by allowing students to play musical instruments or read poetry on air. The school is also look- ing at getting local busi- nesses involved by playing advertisements. Principal Terry Hewetson says the stu- dio cost around $10,000 to set up.
