A new American football season has begun for the Waitakere Typhoon with the junior team playing the South Auckland Raiders at Jack Colvin Park over the weekend. The Typhoon were wearing their Knights uniforms, acquired after the club starred in the Disney film Avalon High. Waitakere was soundly beaten 38-6 with Daniel Mau'u's 35-yard touchdown pass to Max Ah Fook being the only score for the west Auckland club. The colt team played to an 8-8 draw against the Hamilton Hawks. Waitakere's new senior team begin their campaign this Saturday against Tamaki Lightning at Blockhouse Bay Reserve.
