The rise of medically-inclined appearance treatments means looking good' has never been easier. The majority of appearance medicine clients get their first touch of enhancement to address a problem that has bothered them. It might be dermal fillers to enhance the lips, Botox to reduce the deep wrinkles between their eyebrows, eye- lid surgery to remove excess skin, laser treatment to get rid of facial pigmentation and broken capillaries, or micro- pigmentation to enhance facial features. Curiosity sends some people in search of speciality treatments. Botox is a treatment which relaxes the muscles in which it is placed. Botox injections are used to soften wrinkles, balance asymmetry, slim the jawline, lift the brow and cor- rect a droopy smile, therefore giving you a more refreshed look. Any facial line or fold can be treated with dermal fillers, which can also be used to enhance your lips and your appearance in a natural way. Treating upper lip lines, folds that run diagonally between the sides of the nose and corners of mouth, is a popular shortcut to a more youthful appearance. Treatments for sun dam- age, wrinkles, facial veins, skin tightening and rejuven- ation using medical grade equipment and highly trained staff are available at the Skin Institute. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and laser treatments can be used to improve fine lines, skin tone, brown spots, enlarged pores, scarring and facial veins. This process stimulates the growth of new, healthy skin tissue and collagen regeneration, thereby tightening the skin. Government asked to be a leader on tobacco control The Cancer Society has congratulated members of the Maori Affairs Sel- ect Committee for their recommendation follow- ing the Inquiry into the tobacco industry in New Zealand and the conse- quences of tobacco use for Maori. The report includes many of the measures that the tobacco control community and the New Zealand public agree will move New Zealand towards becoming a smoke free nation. When the recommen- dations are adopted it will return New Zealand to the forefront of tobacco control in the world,'' says Health pro- motion manager, Dr Jan Pearson. Hundreds of people from all over the country have put an enormous amount of time and effort into this process. The select committee's report proves that their efforts have been acknowledged and that there is a strong will to control tobacco in Aotea- roa. Media, cancer con- trol agencies and govern- ments all over the world are watching to see how New Zealand moves.'' The Society believes that now it is the Govern- ment's turn to take the committee's recommen- dations on board and take this opportunity to demonstrate inter- national leadership. The current National- led government has already strongly supported effective quit services. We believe acceptance of the recom- mendations will prove that the Government is committed to the health and wellbeing of all our citizens, especially vul- nerable groups who suf- fer the most harm from tobacco and smoking. We would like to thank all Cancer Society supporters and partners who have given us their valuable feedback and support and encourage us to continue our tobacco control efforts for the benefit of all New Zealanders.''
