There were sack, egg and spoon races and three-legged races with mums and dads. There was an award ceremony afterwards and children received certificates and medals to celebrate their achievements. Cash for courses, above: Parents and babies are set to benefit from a recent grant made to the West Auckland Parents Centre by the Harcourts Foundation, a charity set up by the Harcourts real estate group. The foundation made a grant of $1560 to help fund the cost of courses for parents and babies aged four to eight months. Pictured is Phil Freeman from Harcourts presenting a cheque to Eileen Joy from the parents centre. Top curlers, right: The Henderson High School Curling team won the Auckland Secondary Schools Curling Championship (girls division) last month. It was held at Paradice Ice Rink, Avondale. They also came second in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Competition held in Dunedin. The team members are Shelley Addison-Bell, Brittany Taylor, Maria Anderson and Waverley Taylor. Happy marriage, above: Aat and Ans Alblas of Henderson marked their 60th wedding anniversary last month. In 1948, when Aat and Ans became engaged in Holland, Aat emigrated to New Zealand to work as an electrician and arrange housing for his new bride. Ans married Aat by proxy, with his brother standing in as the groom. She arrived in New Zealand legally married to Aat, but they had not seen each other for two years. They have a very close-knit family of six girls and two boys. The Alblas brood are still close to their parents, with five living in New Zealand. Twenty grandchildren and three great- grandchildren continue this ever-growing family line. Retail excellence, left: Dream of Italy was second runner-up in the online category of the New Zealand Retailers Association's Top Shop Awards last month.
